Omihi Rise is the location of The Crater Rim's winery site. Located in the region of Omihi in North Canterbury, the thirty-hectare site is sun drenched with rolling hills. Omihi has its own microclimate and produces excellent Pinot Noir.
The site was selected for its varied topography, heat summation, and mixture of limestone and marine-silt, clay-based soils. We are developing vineyards to produce high quality, single vineyard wine from this Pinot Noir. The vines are planted at a density of between 6,000 – 7,000 plants per hectare which will allow us to crop low, express the vineyard and maximise our ripening and extract in these varietals. We look forward to developing this site further in the coming years as the quality of wine produced from grapes grown on the site is outstanding.
