Waipara RieslingThe Crater Rim Waipara Riesling 2012/2013/2014
Tasted in mid 2018, the 2012 to 2014 vintages, all from a single vineyard, showed impressive quality and value. Drinking well now, the 2014 vintage (4.5*) is a medium style (30 grams/litre residual sugar), with strong, ripe, peachy, slightly spicy flavours, building bottle-aged complexity. Light yellow/green, the 2013 vintage (4.5*) has excellent drive and depth, with peachy, spicy flavours, low alcohol (9.5 per cent), gentle sweetness and lovely harmony. Maturing well, the 2012 vintage (4*) is slightly more restrained, with a pale lemon/green hue, good weight, a splash of sweetness and strong, lemony, appley flavours. It's drinking well now.
